United Services Portsmouth 7 – 79 Havant AXV

Havant Axv arrived at United Services perfect rugby pitches to be greeted with a deluge of rain so a greasy pitch awaited us!

Havant Axv took the game to US straight away applying pressure to the first ruck forcing an infringement. Hav kicker struck a beauty from 35m out.

Havant made several surges deep into the opposition 22 but some good defence and the odd handling error keep the scoremetre flat.

Finally havant pressure cracked on US. Havant relaxed, put together composed forward phases and started the try metre ticking steadily. Too many tries to mention, but many of the havant side put the ball over the white line. 40 points in each half. US looked a little dejected as they were Merit One winners last season, but the league change around to allow Havant 2’s to play our old league has clearly provided competition for the Merit One league.

Despite only 2 training sessions and no warm up matches, Havant looked composed, clinical at times and already a team bond is clearly in evidence. Well done to everyone 1-18!!

Man of the Match:

Chris O’Hagan

Tireless in defence, crashing ball up in the centre’s all day and general great play around the park gives Chris O’Hagan Man of the Match. Well done Chris!

Donkey of the match:

Havant no. 8

Awesome work around the park, fierce attacking runs bags 4 superb tries then gets smashed by the tiny south islander winger! Priceless but a classy performance from the no. 8
