It is with great sadness that we announce Roger Thompson passed away at home on 24 August, just shy of his 89thbirthday, surrounded by his family and love and will be terribly missed. He leaves behind his wife Chris, his four children and 8 grandchildren and joins his great grandson Patrick. Roger was a longstanding member of Havant Rugby Club, Seacourt Tennis Club and Hayling Golf Club, having been a member of each of them for over 60 years, playing and making good use of the bar at them all.
As well as being a Chairman of Havant Rugby Club, he was instrumental in establishing the mini and junior rugby section and was delighted when the section celebrated its 50thanniversary this year, seeing well over 500 children playing the game and he was honoured to be mentioned in The Times.
He was a keen player of the sports at Seacourt Tennis Club well into his 80’s, particularly Real Tennis, and was a past Chairman of the Real Tennis section. He was also a founding member of the Racquetteers and enjoyed playing for many years.
As well as playing regularly at Hayling Golf Club until very recently, enjoying nothing more than a few holes on a summers evening, he was a trustee of the club for many years. He was a lover of the flora and fauna on and around the course contributing to much of the knowledge and information about the evolving nature of the course.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris and the rest of the family.

Funeral arrangements
The funeral of Roger will take place on Friday 11 October at 1.45pm at the Oaks Crematorium (Havant, PO9 5NA). Afterwards Chris and the family would like to invite everyone back to Hayling Golf Club (PO11 0BX) to celebrate his life. Wear any colour you like (he was colour blind!) but not too much black. Also please no flowers however a donation to the Rowans Hospice at Home Service, using the link below, who cared so well for Roger in the last weeks of his life would be most welcome.
