Preseason continued with Winchester workout

Havant entertained Winchester Friday evening under the Hooks Lane lights, with a healthy 300+ crowd watching the lads go through their paces against Regional2 opposition in the latest preseason run out.

Tom Gwyther, Jack Phillips and Jack Lee making their first starts and impressing.

The predicted rain managed to hold off until the game finished…just

The game itself was dominated by the home sides defence with Winchester finding no way through the brick wall. Rueben Knight pulled the strings and Havant duly scored five tries without reply.

The first came inside the first ten minutes with Dylan Lawley crashing over after a big Joel Knight break.

Wes Dugan went over for try number two, converted by Joel Knight, Havant led 14-0 with twenty minutes gone.

Try number 3 saw James Wise and Rory Penfold show fleet of foot on the wing with Penfold dotting down in the corner, again Joel Knight was accurate with the boot 21-0 Approaching halftime- time.

Havant’s rolling maul made try number four with Charlie Wright coming up with the ball and the congratulations from his team mates.

James Wise finished off the scoring on the right wing, sprinting away from the Winchester defence making the final score 33-0.

Head Coach Will Knight’s thoughts

“ A good second step on the pre-season journey. We asked for improvement in some specific areas this evening and they were delivered. I felt the scrum and line-out went pretty well and certainly caused Winchester some challenges.
Thanks to Winchester they came and gave us a good game and I am sure they will do well this coming season. We now have one more dress rehearsal and will look to improve again. The work the boys have done all summer is coming together but there are a few more gears to go.”
