The latest round of Regional 1 South-Central saw Havant pit themselves against Bournemouth at their windswept Chapel gate ground.
There was a 50th cap for young Will Owen from the bench which also saw the return of scrum-half Ben Holt and a rare appearance of Jack Ward-Golden making his 110th appearance in the front row. Harrison Young partnered Ross Parkins in the 2nd row after the injury to Richie Janes pre-Christmas.
The first half was all about the Havant attack, which Bournemouth had no answer to. Ben Chambers opened the scoring after cutting a fine line and Jez Smith extended the score with a run from inside his own half, not bad for a prop! Havant led 12-0. Bournemouth did pull a try back, but Havant continued to throw the ball around with Reuben Knight pulling the strings.
Wes Dugan was on the end of a rolling maul extending the lead further, there's no answer to the rolling maul when it gets going.
Ben Chambers pace was causing problems all afternoon and two more tries making it a hattrick soon followed. The 3rd try was fantastic after a kick and chase, even surprising the linesman our very own President Jon Mangnall.
Bournemouth did create some pressure right on half time with Havant falling foul of the referee, Harrison Young binned for his efforts on the ground! but Havant kept them out till the half-time whistle.

Half-time Bournemouth 7 Havant 31

The 2nd period started with Bournemouth on the front foot, maybe Havant took their foot off the gas a little with the bonus point already secured. The home side reduced the lead with another well worked try and the home crowd's volume went up a notch.
Minutes later the Reuben Knight restored the healthy lead. Havant led 14-36 with just over ten minutes played.
Bournemouth had their best period of sustained pressure when Havant were again reduced to 14 players this time Dylan Lawley with the high hit and ten minutes on the sidelines. Two quick tries had the crowd buzzing and the match commentator too! the gap was now just ten points.
In a frantic last ten minutes Ben Holt scored under the posts which was converted by Jacob Knight, only for Bournemouth to hit right back with their 5th try of the afternoon.
As Bournemouth pushed to close the gap, some excellent game play produced three more tries for Havant. First up Reuben Knight cleverly scored then set up the penalty try as a Bournemouth hand stopped a certain try with a deliberate knock on. Finally, Dylan Lawley put the icing on the cake so to speak with another well worked try.

Will Knight's thoughts after the game
"Credit to Bournemouth, many teams may have given up in a game like today, but they kept coming and put us under some real pressure in the 2nd half.
In terms of the result, we have to be pleased and there were some very good individual performances. When we were fully focused our attack and defence were excellent.
What we need to do better at is maintaining concentration when the game feels like its been won. We secured the try bonus in 20 minutes today and that is not always helpful.
What was very positives is how we closed the game out-really ruthless and some real quality. All three teams won today, and we have some key players coming back to fitness, so things are looking positive."
