It took 1 minute for the Dolphins to open their account in this seasons league competition. Ash Wakefield crashed over after a driving maul and Harry Rabjohn slotted the first of 8 conversions, 7-0 Dolphins. The weather was playing its part as constant rain made handling difficult for both sides. It took 15 minutes for Havant to get in position for Prop Zeki Yesilmen to drive over from dominant forward play, conversion good 14-0. The Dolphins pack were dominant and flankers Alfie Wainscroft and Kelton New were making ground with every carry. Tries then came in 5 minute intervals as Captain and Full Back Rory Penfold scored a brace and Scrum Half Robbie Hume added one, 33-0. Handling errors put Dolphins under pressure in their 22 and Bournemouth pounced with a well worked try that was converted 33-7 as the half time whistle went.
The second half started with both sides struggling to put phases together in the rain, but Bournemouth struck after 20 minutes to make the score 33-12. Tremendous lineout work by James Blackwell and long ranging line breaks set Dolphins up to dominate the rest of the game. The opposition made him Man of the Match after the game. Dolphin forwards managed to drive mauls 15+ metres and No. 8 Harrison Chalk scored to take score to 40-12. Eddie Lewis at Fly half was now bossing the game and again tries came at 5 minute intervals as Winger James Wise and Centre Harry Rabjohn added tries, 54-12. Jo Nolan had come on and was knocking Bournemouth backwards with every tackle made and Wayne Dugan, Centre, was tearing holes in their back line. Prop Alex Hankin and Hooker Cam Boa were everywhere and Cam was rewarded with a try 61-12. Final play of the game and Rory avoided a hat trick by trying to put James Wise in for his second, only for pass to be deemed forward - Hat Trick avoidance definitely deserved the DotD pint!
Relentless described the Dolphins today with every player putting in a shift to get the season started with a win. Boys did what was asked of them and coaches Joe Moore, Kerry Packer and Christian Roberts were pleased with the performance.
