A slow start as Ellingham & Ringwood put up a solid defence. On 5 minutes centre Harry Rabjohn kick a penalty, his 1st of 5 kicks to cross the bar, to give Dolphins a 3-0 lead. 9 opposition penalties frustrated Dolphins attempts to get some phases together, but a dominant scrum gave a platform for winger Chris Buckett to finish a backs move with a try, 8-0. E&R came back and a series of penalties undermined Dolphins 10 defensive phases allowing them in for a try. 8-7. Dominant Dolphins took the rest of the half to score, second row Jacob Ashcroft ran a great line to split the defensive line, 13-7 and half time. Hooker Kelton New was knocking the opposition down in a dominant defensive performance ably assisted by Harrison Chalk. Centre Jonah North was attempting to crash it through the E&R back line and Tyrese Keita was securing the breakdowns but the gaps were not opening up.
The coaches had a word and Dolphins charged out of the blocks to score from the kick off as winger James Wise won the ball in the aior from the kick off and prop Jez Smith went over for a try, 20-7. 6 minutes later after 2 dominant scrums and 8 phases of attack no. 8 Ash Wakefield pick off the base of the goal line ruck and stretched over to score, 27-7. E&R received a Yellow Card on their 15th penalty of the game and Dolphins emptied their bench with Joel MacFarlane, Nick Stoffel and James Blackwell replacing Rory Penfold, Ash Chirima and Tyrese Keita. Dolphins turned over an E&R lineout and after 6 phases of attack scrum half Robbie Hume scampered in for his 1st, 32-7. Then the Dolphins seemed to enter a mad phase of play in which they received Yellow Cards for flanker Harrison Chalk and lock Jacob Ashworth. E&R capitalised with two tries, 32-19. Dolphins got back in the groove Robbie somersaulted in for his 2nd, 39-19. James Wise then went over, 46-19. E&R won the kick off and 4 attacks were on the Dolphins line but were turned over and Joel MacFarlane broke loose and made it to E&R's 22 where in the tackle he off loaded to Harry Rabjohn who dived in for the try, 51-19.
Jez Smith was player of the match selected by the opposition.
Job done, but perhaps not a convincing performance with 17 conceded penalties. Portsmouth next week.
