Havant Dolphins went in to this game with confidence high and having not been beaten for nearly 2 years.
Going in to the Zoo league was a big step up and the task this year they new would be different. On Saturday, they came up against a team on top of their form and we clinical in their game.
The first 5 minutes were pretty even with both sides feeling each other out. The rest of the half was more one way traffic with Chichester running in 5 tries!
Following some changes from a strong Havant bench, the second half was more even. Havant started to run at their opposition with intent and made some good ground. They got their reward with Ban Lanigan thundering over under the posts for the visitor on score, which was converted.
3 more tries for Chichester against a tired Dolphins made the final score 48 - 7 to the home side.
Coach Lewis Osborne was understandably disappointed. 'We came in to this game know we would have to play very well. Chichester were a very good side and worthy of their victory today and have taught us the level we need to be at to compete in this league. That said, we played well in parts and there were a couple of strong performances, especially Joe Milton who did not stop tackling and running all day. He gives us fantastic go forward ball that we need to build on. We went behind a couple of tries today, which is not something we have experience for a while, and we looked a bit shell shocked. By the time we came back in to the game, it was too late as Chichester had capitalised on it. Now we just need to regroup and come back together. This is a strong group of lads who will fight back.'
