Revenge is sweet as Dolphins beat a strong Chichester 2's

The Dolphins went into the Game with Chichester with revenge on their minds. Having been soundly beaten earlier in the season, they were determined to right that wrong.

Chichester turned up with one of the better sides they have put out this season so this would be a tough ask.

Hav has a few injuries so a slight reshuffle meant Tom Mew made his first senior start at hooker and Joe Milton went to prop.

It was the away side that made the better start. Feeding mainly of Hav mistakes they got their way down to the Havant line with a driving maul and touched down for the first score of the game, this was unconverted. Hav quickly got back in the right part of the field and with a penalty under the posts, the Hav skipper pointed for a kick at goal. On a day where points needed to be accumulated, Hav scrum half, Cam McGuigan opened the home sides account with 3 points. The next try came with some great play from Hav, with the ball shipped out to Jonah North on the left wing. The youngster beautifully stepped his man, sprinted down his wing for a marvellous solo effort. The try was unconverted. From the restart, Hav really stepped on the gas. A cracking take from skipper Christian Roberts (still with no tries this season) and then and offload to Joe Milton saw the prop boulder through anything that got in his way, running 60 meters to go under the posts. Cam added the extras. Chi did manage another score before the break.

HT - 15-10

The second half started well for the home side, trying to push their advantage with the other winger Will Gibson touching down with Cam adding the extras. Chi were still not lying down and hit back with a converted try of their own. This still spurred the Dolphins in to life again and a clean break by Will Owen saw him go under the posts. Unfortunately Cam could not convert. With the scores still quite tight, Hav got a penalty about 40 meters out. Up stepped Jonah and slotted the 3 points to the joy of the crowd. A few minutes later, Hav got another penalty in a similar position but a bit further out. Up stepped the now confident winger who nailed another 3 points. Still showing some fight, Chichester did get their 4th try, but then it was all Havant again. Following multiple phases and the defender sucked in, fly half Pete Living threw an exquisite pass over the top of the rushing defence for Ed Wilkes to get a well deserved try. Jonah added the conversion taking his personal tally to 16 points.

This was a cracking performance and revenge was certainly sweet. The stand out performance was from another of Havant's young stars of this season. Head Coach Lewis Osborne commented, 'Tom Mew playing at hooker did everything well today. Playing against a strong and experienced Chichester pack did not phase him. His throwing in was very good and he got around the park well. He deserved his man of the match.'

After a long season (seem to say that every year) The Dolphins finished 4th in a league many levels above where they were last year, and can be proud of their achievements. They have grown as a squad and as we enter the summer break, thoughts already turn to next season and how exciting the journey will continue to be.
